Things to do in Edinburgh
Arthur’s Seat
Arthur's Seat is the main peak of the group of hills which form most of Holyrood Park, a remarkably wild piece of highland landscape in the centre of the city of Edinburgh, about a mile to the east of Edinburgh Castle. The hill rises above the city to a height of 251 m (820 ft), provides excellent panoramic views of the city, is quite easy to climb, and is a popular walk. Though it can be climbed from almost any direction, the easiest and simplest ascent is from the East, where a grassy slope rises above Dunsapie Loch.
Many claim that its name is a derivation of a myriad of legends pertaining to King Arthur, such as the reference in Y Gododdin. However it has also been claimed that the name is a corruption of the phrase "Archer's Seat".
City Art Centre
Scotland’s capital city has fascinated artists for centuries. The medieval Old Town with its formidable castle and claustrophobic closes huddled around the Royal Mile; the classically – inspired architecture and spacious streets of the New Town and the city’s unique natural setting have inspired generations of artists from far and near. This small selection of paintings of historic Edinburgh is taken from the City’s fine art collection, housed in the City Art Centre.
